ART: pretty boy angels :D
Title: ...'omg pervy gay angels yaye'?
Characters: They started off as random angels, but kind of morphed into Finnian and Anifiel from the Juxtapose Fantasy universe. Hehe.
Rating: PG-13 for a bit of bondage and very mild cross-dressing.
Media: Ink and watercolour, some minor embellishment in Open Canvas since the scan ate up ALL the shading I'd done on the wings. D:
Notes: This is what I painted for [info]son_of_darkness's birthday. ^_^ I know there are some anatomy errors, please ignore them!! *embarrassed*

I'm still on a Memoirs of a Geisha cloud of afterglow. I really want to see that film again - which is amazing, because I've almost *never* felt the need to watch anything a second time so soon after seeing it the first. Apart from Goblet of Fire, I think this is the only other film I've watched over the past few years that I completely adored.

My favourite line from the film:

Remember, Chiyo, geisha are not courtesans. And we are not wives. We sell our skills, not our bodies. We create another secret world, a place only of beauty. The very word "geisha" means artist and to be a geisha is to be judged as a moving work of art.

Oh. :)

There was an awesome documentary on BBC3 about a girl training to be a Geisha. It might be on repeat and I can't remember the title, but it was something fairly obvious. You might like it :)

I really want to see that film again

Oh lord, I saw it three times in about a week and a half. It's one of the best films I've seen in a long time. The cinematography, the choreography, the costumes! I still have chills from some of the scenes. You should see it again - it's well worth it.

Have you read the book? Not that you need to to appreciate the film, but the book is amazing as well and I highly recommend it.

Yes, I read the book about 4 years ago.

Same here. I couldn't remember certain scenes (like the fire) and were convinced they didn't actually happen in the book.

PS - I don't think I've ever recieved a comment from you before! Hello, mecklen!! :D

Oh, hello. *blushes* I was kind of worshipping from afar, lurking around, all that nonsense. I'll try to make it up to you. ;)

Actually, according to [info]elanor_isolda, the fire *didn't* happen in the book - that was an extra scene added by the director. At least, I *think* it was the fire scene Elanor was talking about...

Now I am just confused. I don't remember Hatsumomo leaving the Okiya, or any of the fire events. I was convinced it was added, but someone I saw it with said it happened. Now I have to dig around for the truth.

At least, I *think* it was the fire scene Elanor was talking about...

I wonder what other scene it could have been? I really should read the book again.

Geisha are pretty misunderstood in the Western cultures no matter how many times you prove it otherwise *huffs*

And the Memoirs of a Geisha did a good job in trying to unveil what a Geisha is and what it takes to be one. BUT, it's still americanised IMO. There are particular Japanese/Oriental concepts that are beyond the Western culture mind-set's understanding, but that's wont to happen *shrugs* I was sorta disappointed that they picked a chinise actress for the role just cos of her international fame, you know? I'd like to see how it came out though *g*

BTW, loved the beautifully naughty angels *g*

I can certainly understand how certain cultural aspects just don't make sense to the Western world. Some concepts about the culture in India and the surrounding countries are hard to explain.

And I can see how the film could be described as americanised, but it is essentially a cultural film for an American/Western audience. If the film were completely true to Japanese concepts, I think most of the viewers would have felt a little alienated, and the film may as well have been *in* Japanese. Same reason why they used an already successful actress. *shrugs* :) But hey, I'm easy to please and the blatant marketing strategies don't bother me. :D

Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and I do hope you'll go see it. ^_^

Here are the links to the two pieces I would like to use:

Hi. ^_^

You're very welcome to use the locker room picture. However, the goth!Snape pic was a giftart, and the recipient has told me she'd rather not have the art used by others. :zzz I'm sorry! You're welcome to use anything else - but again, quickly link me to what you'd like to use so that I can check. :)

Hello, I was taking a look around lizardjunk and I thought I would just come over to say: You art is fantastic!!!! *much lovage*

I was wanting to ask your permission to colour a harry/draco pencil drawing I fell in love with. Its the one which was a present to Legomymalfoy. I hope you don't mind me asking?
